04/07/2005: "hammer my bones on the anvil of daylight"

i would like to thank Poker Stars for offering me the opportunity to buy a new PSP!

woot!

here's some stats from last nights win:

You finished in 4th place (eliminated at hand #1488214245).
421 hands played and saw flop:
- 20 times out of 59 while in small blind (33%)
- 18 times out of 55 while in big blind (32%)
- 38 times out of 307 in other positions (12%)
- a total of 76 times out of 421 (18%)

Pots won at showdown - 20 out of 32 (62%)
Pots won without showdown - 38

you can contrast these with wed's stats where my aces were cracked by a flush on the river;

You finished in 78th place (eliminated at hand #1481627321).

202 hands played and saw flop:
- 9 times out of 23 while in small blind (39%)
- 6 times out of 23 while in big blind (26%)
- 24 times out of 156 in other positions (15%)
- a total of 39 times out of 202 (19%)
Pots won at showdown - 6 out of 7 (85%)
Pots won without showdown - 12

i'll have to dig up the stats from my last 5th place finish; be interesting to see if my play improved any. i do know that i sucked out twice last night, but both times cost the other player their tournament, where as i would have just lost some chips. from the 2nd break forward i was pretty table leader at each table i played at - so i got a lot of respect with my raises.

last night was also the first time i made a strong, concerted effort to always raise with the same amount; so i either limped with a call or came in 3xBB. there were very few times i did not adhere to this. also, at the final table i showed several hands when my raise was fold to, hands such as AA, AK, QQ, etc. this allowed me to steal a few pots with subsequent raises. not many, but a few ;-)

Way to go PokerStars! How very generous of them. TruePoker got me a new computer in December and Party's going to pay my taxes this year. These sites are so thoughtful, no?
