04/13/2005: "just the facts, or do you care"

heh. heh heh. heh heh he.

i got a full day off today, which considering that we have no full time bather now, is pretty nice. i guess i should feel bad for Paul, who is going to have to bathe his own dogs prior to grooming, but in my defense there are only about 6 and i needed a full day of R&R. the bad news, or at least sad, is that i was too lazy to get up and drive Dar to the shop, so i am carless...meaning if i want my PSP today, i gotta go get it when she gets home; that's a fly in the ointment b/c on my days off i generally like to start WAC around 3PM. yes, WAC - Wednesday Afternoon Cocktails. i work Fridays till 7PM, get over it.

anywho - since my new plan for today revolves around playing as much online poker as i can stomach and watching as much TiVo as i can swallow, it is possible this could be a multiple post day. prepare accordingly.

i am currently playing in the 7AM Poker Stars $11+Rebuys tourney. we're past the 2nd break and i am lagging in at 43 out of 68 remaining players. the deck has been pretty cold since the end of the rebuy period, so i am not seeing many flops.

on the lighter side, i am watching a portion of my huge reserve of Cheap Seats. if you haven't seen this show, you need to set your TiVo for stun, b/c it is well worth the effort. the Sklar brothers are two stand-up comedians who somehow got hooked up with a sweet gig at ESPN where they get to voice-over Mystery Science Theater 3000-style a vast library of things ESPN obviously used to run in the wee hours of the morning. right now i am watching them annotate the 1994 Spelling Bee and they are killing me. before this episode i watched them ridicule the 1998 WSOP. good show - they crack me up!

ok, i have busted out of the tournament...that happened faster than Kirstie Alley's waist expansion. here are some ugly details:

no sense in even trying to understand why this fool would call my re-raise. also no sense in trying to understand why i would go all-in when i missed the flop...but i did read him somewhat right. that's poker, baby.

oh yeah, BTW, the 1998 WSOP on Cheap Seats featured Scotty Nguyen winning the whole thing. he did not utter my new catch phrase though. damn!

time for a shower and some breakfast!

i love this "more" section...means i get an extra entry without having to expend the energy of creating a new title, and god knows, that is a lot of work. lazy much?

so i no longer feel bad about work: of the mere 6 dogs on the books today, only 3 showed. nice action! while i should be upset, since that is how i earn money to feed my face and buy alcohol-related products, the truth of the matter is that wed-sat we'll groom probably another 60 dogs. factor in the fact that we are at 75% reservation rate for this weekend, and i am not sweating it. as usual per the spring season, we got more work that we can shake a stick at. praise be the slow day (which i did kinda engineered, but hey, that is the power of answering the phone and booking the appointments.)

in our quest to "grow the business" we are trying to assume the building next to us for a new 3 year lease. being the suburbs, the City of Missouri City (that sounds so sad...nice name) is hesitant to grant us an occupancy permit. it is there contention that we were mis-granted our first permit and that our business shouldn't be where it is anyway. the truth of the matter, although this is just my $.02, is that Missouri City wants this old set of buildings demolished so that new structures can be erected which adhere to the new zoning statues. in suburbia, homogenization is the key to happiness, right? so sad. anyway, today the Assistant City Planner is to come see the place and try to capture an idea of how we are running our business and how we plan to expand. you know, for being fronted on a state highway where the speed limit is frickin' 55MPH, they sure are worried about the noise that dogs could make. gimme a break - the damn cars hurtling past at an average of 65MPH are louder than the dogs. i hate yuppies and the NIMBY mindset. no worries, we only have a client list of roughly 4500 customers...guess we don't serve the public good the way a new Wal-mart would (read that as we won't pay as much in taxes as a new Wal-mart.) umm, asshooooooles (say this in the Fish Called Wanda way.)

so far today i have dropped $22 in SnGs at Party with zero return, plus $43 with no return at Poker Stars. BUT - i am up $10.76 at FTP! been playing $.50/$1 NLHE ring tables, slowly eeeking out my bonus. if you will notice at the bottom right, FTP is the one site where i am negative for the year. i dunno why. well, i know i spent probably $200 playing in SnGs trying to win seats in the WSOP or Howard Lederer's Fantasy Camp. but the other $200+ has been sunk in ring games, with some of those being late night drunk sessions. i know, i know - moronic. i have tried to stop doing that. ;-)

in roughly 3 hours i am going to spend some FTP points and play in some freerolls for the WSOP and, of course, at 3:45PM i am going to play my favorite $11+Rebuy tourney at Poker Stars. i'll check back in later....

so here is how i keep losing money at FTP: never hitting my draws!

i'd be interested in hearing from my poker brethern on this matter. am i being a moron for trying to hit cash-game draws like this? i seem to keep doing it....

and yes, i fully realize i should have accepted his check and taken the free card. not sure why he checked; you'd think with his TPTK, he would have been fearing four-to-the-flush.

that's poker, baby!

that's -$105 for today. ugh!

Why call with with a draw? You want to be the aggessor in that situation. You may have outs but you should assume you are probably behind at this point.

That tourney hand is brutal. Guy should have been folding. Don't see how he could think he was committed to playing the hand.
